In searching for a tree service be sure that their customer service is up to your standards, if you expect a call back within 24 hours and the tree service takes a week to get back to you about pricing and an estimate, working with them down the line is probably going to be difficult for you and them. It should not cost you anything to have technicians come to your property to meet with you, review the work to be done and give you an estimate they can stand behind. If a company is charging you just to come out, they either don't need your business because the can afford to lose customers who will not pay for estimates, or need your business too much and will nickel and dime you throughout the entire process.  Their pricing should also be transparent in the written estimate they give you; any additional costs should be explained clearly before you accept the estimate and authorize work to begin.
